This experiential exhibit weaves together audio, visual, and performance art to unravel the intricate threads of climate change, revealing the historical oppression and abuse of bodies - both earthly and human - at its core. By bringing together this group of powerful female artists across a variety of mediums, the viewer will be immersed in a deeply emotional and intimate expression of the theme.
Kat Howard’s fiber art addresses the history of the persecution of women and the body as a vessel for trauma. Her massive installation unsettles the viewer through an exploration of feminine power that has been violated. Kat’s intentional choice of natural and found materials includes raw cotton, cotton batting, flax, clothing line, upholstery piping and beeswax.
Kathy Kearns background as a climate tech entrepreneur, strategist and musician led her to visualize and curate the concept for this exhibit. Her hope is to invite more people in to experience multidisciplinary art that elevates complex topics rooted in nature and humanity and allows viewers to draw their own conclusions. She created an original soundtrack for the exhibit combining elements of electronic, ambient and classical music — incorporating natural field recordings and samples of historical folk music.
On Friday, July 18th (6pm) and Sunday July 20th (2pm) a captivating performance will unfold featuring the work of choreographers and modern dancers, Leighann Kowalsky and Catherine Meringolo, bringing the exhibit's key themes to life through movement, improvisation and performance art.
